Schizophrenia, meaning ‘split mind’ in ancient Greek- there is no better term for the current state of politics.
Vladislav Surkov (“Putin’s Rasputin”) introduced some interesting concepts to the Russian propaganda machine, inspired by absurdist and surrealist art theory. If you can make such a confusion of a spectacle, make every event polarising and divisive, and disguise every movement with 3 antithetical movements- you paint a very confusing picture for the opposition. It’s absurdist game theory.
We can also look at Alexander Dugin, and his ‘Foundation of Modern Geopolitics’ – a guide book for rebuilding the USSR and reclaiming the world stage. There are several notable suggestions/predictions in his work:
- Annex Ukraine
- Cultivate anti-Atlantacist (anti-western) sentiment in Europe
- Separate the UK from the European economy
- Ally with Tehran
- Create disruption in the western world by funding opposing movements.
That last one is what we are most interested in talking about today- accelerationism as a geopolitical weapon. What I mean by accelerationism in this article, is the acceleration of societal collapse by means of increasing the ‘social temperature’, cultural turbulence, and general ‘societal entropy’.
The result is confusion, not knowing what to believe, mixed messages, fear, panic, lack of understanding, and internal instability. Psychosis.
So how is it done?
Cultivate echo chambers, fund extremist groups, polarise the opinion-space and incentivise people to ‘pick a side’, create enough misinformation and disinformation that even if people don’t believe it- they also start to doubt everything else. It’s socio-political gaslighting. Psychological warfare. And we’ve been living it for the past 15+ years. A Schizophrenic society.
I will talk more about schizophrenia as a natural evolution of complexity another time, but in this case- it’s utilised and inflicted with the intention of negative effects. Russia have been incredibly effective in their execution.
Take a look at the US at the current moment in time. Internally unstable- with two voting demographics of starkly different motivations- many of which are solely based on populism and not political ideals in the slightest. We may well see it become unstable to a point that it can no longer maintain it’s position in the geopolitical arena- essentially having been brought to a standstill from within.
I won’t definitively say that Trump is a plant, but he has been incredibly effective to Russia’s benefit. Mr Musk has just been invited into US government and has done the equivalent of what can only be described as ‘pulling out handfuls of wires’ to get the machine to work more efficiently- effectively disabling it or damaging it to a point where it will struggle to function. The mind of the US government is split and scattered.
So what is the antidote to all of this chaos? How do you reduce the entropy of a system? You cool it down – lower the temperature; move slower, move deliberately. We should take our time. Russia is doing the equivalent of gas-lighting and ‘gassing us out’ in fight terminology – letting us run the ‘societal tank’ hot and exhausting ourselves.
Comparatively, Russia doesn’t require so much internal noise and structural regulation – many homes grow the majority of their own food and are more self sufficient – meaning they don’t rely on a meta distribution system overhead to receive their daily bread. When things get tougher and more chaotic- it has less of a drastic impact/influence on the functioning of their society. Resources and infrastructure- ‘the governmental mind’ can be concentrated on the problems at hand rather than managing and maintaining everything for the population. It’s more decentralised. They don’t need a strong economy, because they are able to be economical with their efforts. The societal mitochondria are more efficient. They are better at fighting because they run cooler, with a higher stress tolerance.
